When it comes to staying organized digitally, there are many ways of doing so. I am always trying new ways of what can benefit me in my workflow, so I can work at the best optimal pace. That is from keeping track of my daily task, calendar events, storing information in a database and much more. What makes this all happen is Notion.

What is Notion?

Notion is a note-taking software and project management software that is used for note-taking, task management, project management, knowledge management, and personal knowledge management. The app uses databases and markdown pages for use in personal and collaboration work.

This may not even seem much to those who don’t know much about Notion or even heard of it at all. I can tell you it is something you should give a try or stick with it. It can be very overwhelming at first not knowing anything about the software, but that goes for anything in life. You have to start somewhere to learn and grow.

How I use Notion will be entirely different from you, but I am here mainly to share how it helps me in my everyday workflow. Notion has a lot packed into, so much you can write a book on it. For your sake of this post I will keep it pretty simple as I am nowhere an intermediate user of Notion.

This is Life in Motion.

Here on this page are blocks that has the databases I want linked. I can easily get to where I need to go from using this dashboard layout. Life in Motion is what it says, a dashboard that keeps my day in motion from the start to end. Here I have blocks for task, notes, work, references, web links, and personal. These all have its purpose for my workflow. This layout is simple too many others but can look complex to a lot of you as well. There is nothing to be worried about because this dashboard is basic and nothing unique as other users defiantly have similar layouts as mine.

If we look at the top, I have a cover image, icon, and a title. Under the title I have a little quote from a song or many of you may have heard this line from TikTok; “go little rockstar.” It’s honestly those three little words that keep me going when I start my day. Even though it’s not the real lyrics of “Pope is a Rockstar” by SALES, it reminds me that what I do; I am my own rockstar of my show. The point isn’t where a saying or quote comes from, it is what it means to you and the way you apply it to your life. That is only one quote out of two you will see on this dashboard because over on the far right I another quote by Richard P. Feynman as well a visual of him. The reason I bring these quote sections up is that I insist you do the same. It releases motivation into my day. I believe it will do the same for you.

I can easily add a new task from my dashboard without having to actually go to that database, making this quick and easy. Same with notes and other areas on my dashboard. In the work block is where I spend most of my time. For example, with “TGT” is set up as a page to open when I click on it. On that page, I have certain areas or databases that is pertaining to this company. A section for important links like google drive, meetings and other web-based resources I use for work. I have a time chart that tracks how long I am working when I set a date and start time to when I add in my end time. This makes it easy for me to go back and see how long I have worked on a certain task. Not only to submit my hours to get paid, but as well see how much time certain task are taking me over others. It allows me to review myself with time management, quality of work, areas that I need to focus on to better and much more. This good to have, no matter whether you have to track your hours for pay or not for a job.

There is a lot of detail to go over for how I operate each companies page setup for myself, but we can save that information for a future post. Over all the way I utilize these pages is different as one may have many database tables, galleries, notes, pay information, views and much more. The customizability of Notion is flexible that you can create a system that works to your everyday needs. As updates continue to be released for this software tool, it will only get better from here.

If you intend to give Notion a try, then don’t hesitate. I recommend this tool to everyone I know. As I have helped close friends, co-workers and family get a simple setup going to start their productivity. This way they can have a foundation to work from and learn what works best for them. There are plenty of videos on YouTube of people talking all about the systems they make, why and how it is beneficial. Key people I would lookup would be Thomas Frank and Ali Abdaal. These two guys have been a huge help in my life learning new skills. I started to do me self reflecting to figure how I can make this work for me.
